Iron Man - Marvel Comic Avenger
74I Am Iron Man
Iron Man first appeared in Tales of Suspense issue 39 in March of 1963. The title featured the words " 'IRON MAN' HE LIVES! HE WALKS! HE CONQUERS!" The credits inside the book are: Plot: Stan Lee, Script: Larry Lieber, Art: Don Heck, and Lettering: Art Simek. The story begins in the closely guarded laboratory of Anthony Stark as he displays his new super powered transistors to a United States General. The transistors can increase the power of military devices a thousand fold and will be used in Vietnam to give the military an advantage over the communist. To give a little background information on our hero the book goes onto describe in one caption, "Anthony Stark…rich, handsome, known as a glamorous playboy, constantly in the company of beautiful, adoring women… Yes, Anthony Stark is both a sophisticate and a scientist! A millionaire bachelor, as much at home in a laboratory as in high society!"
Anthony accompanies the military into the dense jungle of Vietnam to test his "midget transistors" against the "Red Guerrillas." After successfully using the new weapons and causing the enemy to retreat he stumbles across a trip wire. Barely surviving the explosion he is found by the warlord Wong-Chu, who discovers his identity from the papers he carries and realizes he is a weapon designer. Tony is diagnosed with only days to live because the shrapnel from the explosion is moving closer to his heart. The warlord tries to trick Anthony into betraying his country and designing him weapons with the false promise of saving his life after he is complete. Tony sees through the ploy and instead begins working on the Iron Man outfit as his last act of defiance.
With the help of Professor Yinsen, an old physicist who is also being held captive, Anthony completes the Iron Man suit. The professor sacrifices his own life to give Stark time to power the suit up, even as Anthony comes to the realization that in order to survive he will have to remain in the suit at all times. Iron Man uses the powers of his new suit to escape and challenge Wong-Chu to a fight. He uses his reverse magnetism to disarm the warlord's military and sends them all fleeing. He then chases down the warlord and blows up a munitions site killing the evil man in the prcess. Thus begins the adventures of Iron Man.
The Hero Grows
After creating the Iron Man suit Tony was forced to wear the chest piece at all times and recharge it once a day; if he did not the shrapnel in his chest would kill him. He masqueraded Iron Man as his body guard and guardian of Stark Industries (his weapons manufacturing company which was founded by his father Howard Stark). Stark befriends pilot James "Rhodey" Rhodes (a Marine helicopter pilot who was shot down and wounded) after escaping the prison camp where he made his first suit of armor. Rhodey eventually becomes his personal pilot and close friend. Other supporting characters include Harold "Happy" Hogan, who is his personal chauffeur, and Virginia "Pepper" Potts. All three characters eventually become aware of Tony's roll as IronMan.
Over the years Iron Man battles communism, terrorism, corporate corruption, industrial espionage and even his personal demon alcoholism. His character evolves as much as his suit as he goes from being a lone hero, to founding member of The Avengers along with Thor, Wasp, Ant-Man, Hulk and eventually Captain America. He latter became the leader of S.H.E.I.L.D.
The Iron Man story is a great adventure that deals with man of the hard questions of today's society including capitalism, patriotism, addiction, honor, and betrayal. Out side of the comic Iron Man has appeared in animated series, two live action movies, animated movies, and will appear in the live action The Avengers due out in 2012.

- Psych Ward: Storm
By Tim Stevens Ororo (Munroe) T'Challa is an adult female who presents as in above average physical fitness. She self-identifies as a mutant and possesses the ability to manipulate weather, which explains her “codename” of Storm. As Storm, the client serves as part of the mutant rights group the X-Men and has done so for several years. Currently, she holds a leadership role for one of the team’s specific squads. Additionally, she also sits as Queen of Wakanda, married to T’Challa, the Wakandan king and costumed symbol of his country, The Black Panther. Finally, she has recently joined the Avengers. Simply from a time management and personal resource management standpoint, these various responsibilities would represent a challenging juggling act. However, the client must now deal with conflicts between the various groups she belongs to. She explains that the Avengers and the X-Men are currently struggling with a difference of philosophy on a problem that has come to blows. Her husband has taken the position that the Avengers’ choice is the most sensible while the client feels that the X-Men have a better handle on the situation. Still, she has no plans to end her relationship with him or to give up her place on the Avengers. Thus, Ororo finds herself wrestling to achieve balance, to honor her principles, to follow through on her responsibilities, and to not sacrifice her romantic/intimate feelings. She is insistent that she will not accept that she cannot accomplish all these things. Despite her assertions, however, the client is fearful that in reality, sacrifices will need to be made. She worries that her leadership of the X-Men is suffering as a result of her split focus; that her peer Cyclops will either control the group through her or simply push her out as he sees fit. She expresses distress that her joining of the Avengers has not helped the team but rather her inability to fully commit to them does more harm than good. Finally, she finds herself wondering where the line between compromise and submission is found in marriage and whether she errs too far on any one side. Is she losing herself to her marriage? Is she resisting compromise so hard it is sinking the relationship? Given external pressures and events, is there a middle ground to be found? While the temptation is always in these situations to simply state an opinion and encourage the client to act in line with that opinion, it is a wrongheaded and inappropriate choice especially for someone as intelligent and opinionated as Ororo. Instead therapy has focused on finding out what her expectations are for herself and others and assessing how realistic those expectations are. We are also discussing what it might mean to her and her self perception to alter those beliefs and what benefits or harms such a move could make. The therapeutic environment being establishment is of unconditional positive regard wherein the client can explore her various roles and offer up observations, thoughts, and feelings about them. This writer is acting as a facilitator to this process, keeping as nondirective as possible so the client can experience a sense of control that she often feels lacking in her day-to-day life. Ororo is open to the therapeutic process and seems committed to making it work. She does exhibit strong boundaries but has also shown a willingness to relax them appropriately and work collaboratively with this writer. The client is currently seeing another therapist for couples work with her husband and this writer has reached out to this therapist, with the client’s permission, to explore a more integrated approach to our respective sessions. Ororo (Munroe) T'Challa has multiple appointments in the coming weeks. She will see Doctors Victor Gischler and Will Conrad on May 30 (see file X-MEN #29), Doctors Matt Fraction and John Romita, Jr on June 6 (AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #5), and Doctors Brian Michael Bendis and Walt Simonson on June 13 (AVENGERS #27). Psy D. Candidate Tim Stevens, MA is a Dialectical Behavior Therapy Consultant and Practicum Trainee at a community mental health center. - 21 hours ago

I loved Iron Man 1 and 2. Robert Downey Jr is Hot - and I even put that in writing! Iron Man 2 is a little more sensitive - his father is in the movie and his female relationships keep us guessing. I love the ending - don't wish to spoil it.
If you go to Iron 2 - be sure to stay AFTER the credits - there is a surprize.
