The Avengers: The Earths Mightiest Movie (May 2012)

The highly anticipated climactic coalition of the earth's mightiest superheroes, better known as The Avengers, is scheduled for release May 4th 2012. This movie is expected to dwarf all Marvel's superhero movies that have come before it. Not only will the movie include Marvel's current superstar, playboy Tony Stark (better known as Iron Man), but it will include other mighty heroes as well. Bruce Banner will return with his monstrous alter ego The Incredible Hulk; the son of Odin, Thor – God of Thunder, will make his second appearance after his upcoming movie debut; Steve Rogers, who has been assumed dead since WWII, will be resurrected as the patriot soldier Captain America; Nick Fury will be a major player as he has been rounding up our rag tag heroes for the organization now known as S.H.I.E.L.D.. Hopefully we will also see the return of Natasha Romanoff as the sexy spy Black Widow. We may also see two more members of the classic comic book Ant Man and Wasp. This movie promises to deliver in story, action, and special effects.

Director

Joss Whedon will be directing The Avengers much to the delight of many of his fans. Whedon is best known for his hit television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the acclaimed spin-off Angel. He is well known among fans of both science fiction and fantasy and I am excited to have him aboard this project.

The Characters:

Iron Man, the superhero persona of playboy Anthony Edward Stark, is the billion dollar CEO of Stark industries. His playboy style, quick with, and quirky character flaws have made him a fan favorite after his two recent hit movies. For those of you who are not familiar with the hero he created the Iron Man outfit which is an awesome suit of armor equipped with super strength, wicked weapons, cool tech, and the ability to fly. He uses his suit to battle evil doers and pick-up beautiful women.

Robert Downey Jr. revitalized his acting career in the first Iron Man movie and has been highly praised in Iron Man 2. He has been cast to play the iron clad super star once again in The Avengers movie.

Hulk is arguably the most powerful being in the Marvel Universe. Bruce Banner exposed himself to gamma radiation and turned into the green goliath angry, you will not known as The Incredible Hulk. He turns back to Banner when calm or unconscious, but do not make him like him when he is angry. The madder the Hulk gets the stronger he gets. Shot him he will get stronger; blow him up – even stronger; drop a nuke on him – THAT WILL REALY MAKE HIM ANGRY! If you do not believe me watch his new animated film Planet Hulk.

Ed Norton played Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk, the green monster's most recent live action film. He brought new life to the roll of the tormented scientist.

He had to part ways with Marvel before he could return for The Avengers.

It was made official at Comic Con 2012 San Diego that Mark Ruffalo (Zodiac and Shutter Island) will be portraying Bruce Banner in the upcoming Avengers movie.

Black Widow is the sexiest super spy every to enter the Marvel Universe. Trained in the elite U.S.S.R. Black Widow Program, Natasha Romanova stole the hearts and secrets of America until she defected to the United States. Natasha now works for S.H.E.I.L.D. going undercover to protect their interest and keep an eye on such persons of interest as Tony Stark. She utilizes martial arts and weapons training along with her extensive espionage skills to accomplish her missions.

Scarlett Johansson portrayed Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and did an awesome job. There are rumors she will be reviving the role in the upcoming The Avengers movie but there is no official world.

Thor is the thunder god of Norse Mythology. He is the son of Odin, the father of the gods and brother of Loki, the trickster. Thor hails form the realm of Asgard wielding the mighty hammer Mjolnir that smashes stone, wields lightning, and hurls through the air crushing his enemies only to return to his hand like a magic boomerang.

Thor the movie will be released May 5th 2011. It will feature Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Marvel will also be releasing a Thor animated movie depicting his childhood quest to find his mythical hammer Mjolnir.

Captain America was America's first successful Super Soldier. When Steve Rodgers attempted to enlist in the military to do his patriotic duty and fight Nazi Germany in WWII he was rejected for being to sickly. But his willingness to serve made him the ideal candidate for the Super Soldier Serum that transformed him to the peak of physical fitness. Steve battles the Nazis as Captain America using his skills in hand to hand combat, military tactics, and his trade mark shield which he has mastered to use as a weapon and defense tool. Captain America is lost in the north Atlantic in one of the final closing battles of WWII and presumed dead.

Captain America: The First Avenger is scheduled to hit theaters July 22nd, 2011. It will star Chris Evans as Captain America, Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.

Colonel Nicholas Joseph Fury, or Nick Fury as his is known, is a super spy and the commander of the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division, commonly known as S.H.I.E.L.D.. He is currently recruiting the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe as part of the Avengers Agenda.

Samuel L. Jackson will be returning as Colonel Nick Fury in the upcoming Captain America and The Avengers movie. Their is also strong speculation that a S.H.I.E.L.D movie will be following shortly after The Avengers hits theaters in 2012.

Hawkeye, Clint Barton, was an orphan who ran away with his brother to join the circus. There he was trained by the Swordsman and Trickshot whom he parted ways with not wanting to follow in there criminal footsteps. He eventually met up with Black Widow and the two battled the Avengers several times. Hawkeye later joined the Avengers, becoming one of their most valuable teammates.

It was announced at Comic Con 2010 that Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) will be playing Hawkeye in the upcoming Avengers film.

Watcha John,

good write up. I used to read super hero comics as a kid, I found myself becoming increasingly suspect of men in spandex tights with their pants on top? That aside, I find the films, laughable, reading the comics was fun, the films and TV series really are just jokes.

best

I really liked the Avengers while growing up. The Hulk is my favorite among all of them. You did a great job on this write-up as your passion for the Avengers shines through here. I can't wait to see all of these movies. Thanks for all of the info!

I love the TV and films MickS. You have to have a suspended imposition of disbelief when watching fantasy movies, otherwise you will pick them apart and that is just no fun. Ty for the post.

Dohn I think the rest of the movies are going to be awesome. If you haven't seen the Planet Hulk anime check it out it is pretty cool. I didn't read the trade until after I saw the movie but it was cool also. I am planning on reading the sequel World War Hulk but I haven't had the opportunity yet. I think they might have an animated sequel in the works also. Thanks for the post.

  • Psych Ward: Storm

By Tim Stevens Ororo (Munroe) T'Challa is an adult female who presents as in above average physical fitness. She self-identifies as a mutant and possesses the ability to manipulate weather, which explains her “codename” of Storm. As Storm, the client serves as part of the mutant rights group the X-Men and has done so for several years. Currently, she holds a leadership role for one of the team’s specific squads. Additionally, she also sits as Queen of Wakanda, married to T’Challa, the Wakandan king and costumed symbol of his country, The Black Panther. Finally, she has recently joined the Avengers. Simply from a time management and personal resource management standpoint, these various responsibilities would represent a challenging juggling act. However, the client must now deal with conflicts between the various groups she belongs to. She explains that the Avengers and the X-Men are currently struggling with a difference of philosophy on a problem that has come to blows. Her husband has taken the position that the Avengers’ choice is the most sensible while the client feels that the X-Men have a better handle on the situation. Still, she has no plans to end her relationship with him or to give up her place on the Avengers. Thus, Ororo finds herself wrestling to achieve balance, to honor her principles, to follow through on her responsibilities, and to not sacrifice her romantic/intimate feelings. She is insistent that she will not accept that she cannot accomplish all these things. Despite her assertions, however, the client is fearful that in reality, sacrifices will need to be made. She worries that her leadership of the X-Men is suffering as a result of her split focus; that her peer Cyclops will either control the group through her or simply push her out as he sees fit. She expresses distress that her joining of the Avengers has not helped the team but rather her inability to fully commit to them does more harm than good. Finally, she finds herself wondering where the line between compromise and submission is found in marriage and whether she errs too far on any one side. Is she losing herself to her marriage? Is she resisting compromise so hard it is sinking the relationship? Given external pressures and events, is there a middle ground to be found? While the temptation is always in these situations to simply state an opinion and encourage the client to act in line with that opinion, it is a wrongheaded and inappropriate choice especially for someone as intelligent and opinionated as Ororo. Instead therapy has focused on finding out what her expectations are for herself and others and assessing how realistic those expectations are. We are also discussing what it might mean to her and her self perception to alter those beliefs and what benefits or harms such a move could make. The therapeutic environment being establishment is of unconditional positive regard wherein the client can explore her various roles and offer up observations, thoughts, and feelings about them. This writer is acting as a facilitator to this process, keeping as nondirective as possible so the client can experience a sense of control that she often feels lacking in her day-to-day life. Ororo is open to the therapeutic process and seems committed to making it work. She does exhibit strong boundaries but has also shown a willingness to relax them appropriately and work collaboratively with this writer. The client is currently seeing another therapist for couples work with her husband and this writer has reached out to this therapist, with the client’s permission, to explore a more integrated approach to our respective sessions. Ororo (Munroe) T'Challa has multiple appointments in the coming weeks. She will see Doctors Victor Gischler and Will Conrad on May 30 (see file X-MEN #29), Doctors Matt Fraction and John Romita, Jr on June 6 (AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #5), and Doctors Brian Michael Bendis and Walt Simonson on June 13 (AVENGERS #27). Psy D. Candidate Tim Stevens, MA is a Dialectical Behavior Therapy Consultant and Practicum Trainee at a community mental health center. - 21 hours ago
